Amman's places in the game

There are more than 500 places to discover in the game, from circles and landmarks to neighbourhoods and well-known streets. Here's a tour of the best known, and where to find them as you drive.

The eight circles

Amman is a city of roundabouts. Zahran Street runs west from Jabal Amman through the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Circles, among banks, hotels and embassies, then the 4th by the Prime Ministry, and the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th out to west Amman. Today many of them are bridges and tunnels, and in the game you drive over and under them as in real life. There's a trophy for driving through all eight.

Downtown and the Citadel

The Roman Theatre

A 2nd-century Roman theatre cut into the hillside, seating thousands. In the game it stands on its real outline, with its tiers, walkways and stage.

In front: Hashemite Plaza with its fountains and palms; beside it, the Odeon.

The Citadel (Jabal Al-Qal'a)

The highest hill downtown, with the columns of the Temple of Hercules, the Umayyad gateway and the Citadel walls. From the top you see all of old Amman.

Reached up the narrow streets from downtown.

The Grand Husseini Mosque

The historic mosque in the heart of downtown, among the souqs and the ka'ak sellers. The game's "first day" starts beside it.

The Raghadan flagpole

The giant flagpole at Raghadan Palace, flying a huge Jordanian flag seen from most of Amman, floodlit at night.

Rainbow Street

Jabal Amman's well-known street of cafés, restaurants and stairs; at night, strings of lights glow over it.

The stairs

Amman is full of public stairs linking its hills. The game has hundreds of flights from the map, some painted, some with colourful umbrellas strung above them.

Abdali, Shmeisani and Jabal Amman

The King Abdullah I Mosque

The mosque with the patterned blue dome on its windowed drum and two square minarets, built in the game on its real outline in Abdali.

The Abdali towers and Boulevard

Amman's modern high-rise district: tall glass towers and a pedestrian boulevard, with red aircraft-warning lights on top at night.

The Housing Bank complex, Shmeisani

The landmark concrete building with its outward-leaning balconies, one of Shmeisani's signatures.

The 6th Circle towers

The two tall glass towers at the Sixth Circle, seen from far across the city.

The Martyrs' Memorial

The limestone memorial with its gold band, above a broad staircase lined with flags, near Al-Hussein Youth City.

West Amman

Abdoun Bridge

The cable-stayed bridge over the valley, with its Y-shaped towers and its famous curve. Drive across it and look down into the valley.

The King Hussein Bin Talal Mosque

One of Jordan's largest mosques, with its walls, four tall minarets and copper dome.

The University of Jordan

The university's domed main gate, the clock tower on the campus, and the streets of the university area and Sweileh around it.

Sweifieh, Abdoun and Deir Ghbar

Neighbourhoods of white-stone villas and apartment blocks, with red tiles on the roofs and terraces.

King Hussein Park

The big park in west Amman, with sports pitches, paths and trees, and the Royal Automobile Museum inside it.

East and south Amman

The Royal Tank Museum

A sand-coloured building with a glass dome and a front shaped like a tank turret, with a tank on a plinth outside.

Marka and the civil airport

East Amman, and Amman Civil Airport with its runway.

Marj Al-Hamam and Al-Muqabalain

South-west Amman, with long roads and steep climbs and descents.

Beyond the city

The Airport Road and Queen Alia Airport

The long road south, past bridges and junctions, to the airport terminal. Taxi fares to the airport have a fixed price.

The Dead Sea

The road drops from Amman to the lowest place on land, about 412 m below sea level, past "Sea level" signs, down to the shore hotels. There's a trophy for getting there.

Places and streets come from OpenStreetMap data and may not match today's Amman in every detail. The landmarks are built in code from the map and reference photos; their proportions are estimates.
